Layering Order

In your design app, the layer order should be structured as shown below:

[Top] Varnish Layer
[Middle] Artwork Folder
[Bottom] White Layer
[Base] Media Reference

Varnish Layer: Solid fill any color, whichever easier to identify. Create a mask which shows the area for varnishing.
Artwork Folder: Put your art inside. For visualize print results, temporary switch layer effect to "multiply".
White Layer: Solid fill WHITE, because this is a layer of white ink that controls opacity. Create a mask which shows the area for opaque white.
Media Reference: For error-proofing, evaluate visual effect and experiments.

Technique Glossary

Drop-out: In the area of your choice, leave white layer transparent and your artwork as white (or transparent). This will expose raw VFX media.
Overlay (Matte): In the area of your choice, leave white layer transparent and your artwork will "overprint" on top of VFX vinyl. This will create semi-matte flash metallic visual effect.
Overlay (Gloss): In the area of your choice, leave white layer below as transparent, then your artwork will "overprint" on top of VFX vinyl. In addition, add Varnish on top to make the area glossy. This will mimic the stamp foil effect.
3D Gloss: In the area of your choice, artwork is on top of solid white layer with varnish add-on. The area will print as normal but embellished with raised texture.
Ghosting: In the area of your choice, artwork is on top of solid white layer with a VERY THIN varnish, which can be complete shapes or graphic. The area will print as normal but has a near-invisible glossy gel on top.
Black Enhance Overcoat: Apply an thin varnish to overall area. The print has deeper black and contrast by wetting the surface with very thin varnish. The overall surface become semi-gloss instead. (Not compatible with 3D Gloss)
White Ink: Most of the printer leave image white as blank or called paper white, but we actually print titanium oxide white.
White Strike: Covers entire substrate with white. Don't worry we have UV printable poster paper upon request if you just need 3D gloss effect.
